For grown-ups

For parents & teachers

Each book is built for reading aloud and colouring side by side. The short text names things to spot, so children practise listening and looking while they colour.

Ways to use the books

  • One spread a day. Read the left page together, then colour the picture. A book lasts about two weeks of bedtimes.
  • Talk while colouring. Colouring keeps hands busy, which makes it easier for little ones to talk about feelings.
  • Grandma Hoot's lesson. Each story ends with Grandma Hoot sharing the lesson. Pause there and ask what your child thinks.
  • Draw your own. Four blank pages at the back invite children to continue the story in their own way.
  • In the classroom. Free printables let a whole class colour the same scene for circle time or a wall display.

Conversation starters

Pip and the Runaway Kite

  • Why do you think Pip didn't ask for help straight away?
  • Who helped Pip, and what did each friend do?
  • When did someone help you? How did it feel?

Activity: Make a paper kite tail with five bows (yellow, blue, green, orange, purple). As each bow goes on, each child names one person they can ask for help.

Pip and the Rainy Day Rainbow

  • What was hard about waiting for the rain to stop?
  • What did Pip and his friends do while they waited?
  • Can you name the colours of the rainbow in order?

Activity: Colour one stripe of a paper rainbow each day for a week, talking each time about something you are looking forward to.

Pip's Big Birthday Surprise

  • How did Pip's friends show they cared about him?
  • What did Pip share at his party?
  • What is the kindest thing someone has done on your birthday?

Activity: Throw a pretend party for a favourite toy. Each child makes one paper "treat" and shares it with the group.

More questions and activities will be added as each new book comes out.
